Get The Exciting Life You Need – A Primer #19 [Feed 2021]

Since the 1990’s, the amount of directly accessible information has exploded. From quick fact checks to ordering fresh foods online we have everything the internet has to offer at our fingertips. Phones with internet access have exponentially increased the possibilities in which work, entertainment and learning can happen. The pace of information updates is unprecedented so that the human brain itself has become the bottleneck in filtering all of these streams of data.

Hence we need to be on guard more than ever about what we allow to enter in our minds.

The ever ongoing stream of notifications, messages, feed updates, e-mails, friendship requests, images, music and videos has a hypnotizing characteristic. Excitement and attention have become major currencies in the digital world and we are paying dearly in our daily life in order to spend them on what (we think) we like.

To dispel misunderstandings: how digital networks have developed and what they are now is neither good nor bad. It is what it is. They have tremendously accelerated what we do, they have brought us closer together than ever and they have exposed us by documenting the actions we take online.

How we are going to use this global “brain” is up to us. This is a radical shift of responsibility to every single one of us. Our online presence is measured; and what pages we visit will continue to be available online.

For the abovementioned reasons, knowing what we are truly after in life becomes indispensable.

To navigate this ever growing and sheer infinite rabbit hole of information, I suggest three pillars to build on. they are approaches that can help you clarify where you are in life and decide where you want to be.

1 – Know what energizes you

When you think of the most exciting and uplifting life experience you could possibly have: What comes to your mind?

It could be literally anything from deriving formulas on a chalk board to sifting the rainforest for exploring rare creatures to dancing or acting on front of a cheering crowd. Whatever it is, write it down, remember it and make sure it becomes a part of your life.

2 – Be aware of your likes

If you wouldn’t need to compromise in any way, what would you like to do? What makes you feel wide inside? What contributes to your feeling of freedom?

2 – Pick a contribution

What is it that you really love to do for others? – for your friends, for your community, for your country, for the world? What can you build that others can lean on?

3 – Think in big terms

Our efforts will follow the task we set for ourselves. When we dare to dream big, we gain access to more energy to realize this vision. When you can achieve your vision within a day, chances are you will stop at that point. At this point you have two options: staying where you are or creating a bigger vision. You decide. What counts at the end of the day is an ideal you can look up to when the outlook is dim. An idea that can carry you beyond disappointments and challenges.

Make sure you are living a life that gives you a feeling as if a series of miracles is constantly about to happen.
